striking clocks always strike numbers one to twelve. The 24 hour clock is purely to make things like timetables easier to understand without the need for am and pm. Clocks never strike 24 hour clock times.

Most countries use 24 hour time, but still have 12 hour clocks.
Errrrr 12.....
At 6pm it doesn't chime 18 does it!!!!
the clock doesnt actually say 24 does it, it will say 23 hours and 59 minutes and then goes to 00.00
I have never seen a digital clock that chimes every hour

Sorry, my question was unclear. What I wanted to know was how many chimes do church clocks in Europe make in the afternoon. Do they strike thirteen, fourteen, etc. or start again with one, two like ours? From an early reply it seems to be the latter, but has anyone heard them so that they are really sure?
