but the money is crap!!! 3000 less than i am now, mind you this new tax thing makes a difference, it is a totally different sort of shop, i would be in a reasdonably sized unit but less staff, and so i would be on my own alot!!! But they have some gorgeous designer clothers from Klass and Ragged Roman, i am weighing it up financially, what do you think? Take less money but be happy and relaxed or stick with the high pressure fast turnover of footwear?

Hello, Dot! :)

I'd have to say go where you'd be happy even if it is less money, but it's just whether you can afford to. Well done, you, for being offered the job, though! :)

Hiya
The interview was more like me interviewing them lol, and it took over an hour, but i am not 100% sure on the money side, if i took it I would pay less tax i guess, and so my take home pay may not actually vary that much . i wish i could calculate tax and insurance deductions from salary, wonder if Ethel knows how to do that?
Hi dot. I don't know your personal circumstances but was wondering if you could make up the difference with tax credits?
Good luck with whatever you decide.

hi mrs overall, no it is above the threshold for WTC i have just looked at the 'do you qualify' site and I it doesn't, but like I said, i would pay less tax,
hi Dot , congrats and try this site

www.listentotaxman.com

its got a paye and ni calculator but you need to know your tax code
Hi Dotty, yaaaay well done!

Would they be prepared to negotiate if you were to say that you would like the job but it's just too big a drop in salary?

How do you feel about going from a very busy environment to a place where you'd be alone a lot of of the time? How long would you feel happy and relaxed?

If you think you would be happier in the long run in the new job, try and get them to negotiate your salary and tell them you will prove to them you are worth the extra. Take the bull by the horns Dot, the worst thing that can happen is they'll say no, it is what it is. You may not get the full 3K but it's worth a punt. Nothing ventured nothing gained and all that.

If they say they won't raise the salary only you know if you can afford to take a drop like that.
Nice one Dot,
Do what you can afford to do ..will you be
happy working on your own ? You have to
weigh up the pros and cons of the job ..
Good Luck with whatever you decide on ..
Take the high pressure one and delegate. That's what they all do here! Muchos pesetos for doing nothing!

Hey Fluffy that was a brilliant site you gave the link to, i have been playing around with figures ever since!!!

It is too big a drop, 3000 top line is gonna be too much of a difference month to month, that site calculates it all really quickly, this new yax thing isn't really alor of difference, only a few quid a week.

Finacially I should stay where I am, but I did like the store and the clothing was brilliant. Still not sure grrrr
My son had the same dilemma last year. He hated where he worked and constantly felt under pressure. He was offered another job but the money was 3.5k less. He didn't know what to do as he has a mortgage to pay as well as other living expenses.

However, he decided to take the new job and the difference in him is amazing. He is so much more relaxed, and so far, has managed on the lower salary although he doesn't have muc h spare cash. He is due a rise at the end of this month and is hoping that will make a difference.

I wish you luck with whichever decision you make.
Well, if you have to work, then you may as well enjoy it.
Hi dot, my philosophy has always been, be happy at work, if you think this new job will give you better quality of life then go for it, the money will never make you happy, I have just packed in my job as an electrician , I was only working about 25-30 hours per week but earnuing about 25,000 per year, I have taken a job as a part time handyman earning, about 8,000 per year and only 16 hopurs per week, I was fed up with the council I worked for, the pressure of work was mad, I came to live in the country for a peaceful life, not pressure, I had that in London for 20 years, and never want it again, be happy dot, we aren't here long, good luck, Ray xx
Congratulations Dotty!

Have a look at this, it should help :

Oooh well done Dot! Have you decided yet? :)
Dotty......some times being happy is better than being rich. If you have been in your present job a long time you may not like the change. If you are not happy in your present job then you may enjoy the change. I took reduction in hours and pay cut last year coz i wanted a more chilled out life. Other people thought I was mad, but Im happier.

I keep looking at the money side of it and cannot work it out to be any less than a 3000.00 drop and that's too much, but I really loved the location and the store I feel really confused about it.
