reverse phone directory

I was wondering if anyone knew of an online reverse telphone directory for the UK. The type where you may have a phone number and it then gives you the name of the phone owner. It seem that the USA is awash with the things but the UK is a different matter

Long ago I asked this question and besides the exchange finder which only locates an area I seem to remember this is illegal for the UK so no such information exists. I may be wrong but I seem to remember you had to pay a detective a lot of money to do this (goodness knows how they find out).

That is correct - it is illegal in the UK.

Telephone the number - it is the only way.

You can get partly there. I have a directory where it will give the area to the first 7 numbers of the phone.
