Are Blue Ray discs region free like hd dvd?
Also does the non HD playback have mulitregion for old dvds? Or does any porduct on the market enable "all region" play back on all discs.

They're not region free, no.

Also, they're currently on version 1. Version 2 is due out at the end of the year, and the vast majority of current players will be incompatible with it.

I'd advise you to wait and watch the prices fall.

Unless you have a really huge HD TV, you won't notice much difference between blu-ray and an upscaling DVD player.

No machine will come with multiregion out the box, but like DVD players currently, there may be little hacks you can use to type in using your remote to get it multiregion.

Yes, just part of the reason why the format is now dead.

I never seen the point of region locking anyway..apart from the film distributers not wanting european destinations getting cinema releases on dvd that is./
