Most people pick music for their funerals, but I was thinking that as I lay dying peacefully (hopefully) many years from now (also hopefully) I would like to drift away to the album Close to the Edge by Yes. Not necessarily because of the title, but because it reminds me of young happy times. Has anyone else got a track or album they would like to drift away to?

'Don't You Forget About Me' by Simple Minds

or, if I ever do believe in the afterlife,

'Hold On I'm Coming' by Sam & Dave
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon album
Ozric tentacles Crackerbox from the Erpland album is a nice song. A floaty away one.
It's not particularly soothing or relaxing but I think I would like Jean Michel Jarre "Rendezvous", particularly this part! I saw him in Paris in 1990 and it was amazing

Rendezvous
'Who wants to live forever?' by Queen. I also want this played at my funeral along with 'Another one bites the dust'. Can't think of anything more fitting.
Good call Cheesefreek. Is that the whole album or just the title track? If it's the whole album, I would probably break with tradition and play side 2 first. The problem is that I would want to hear the whole album before passing away and at the end, I would then be lying there thinking 'I should be dead now' and getting annoyed because the tone arm has cleared the run-out groove and the stylus is now getting ruined by noisily playing the label. I'm also presuming of course that I am not surrounded by hordes of loved ones all willing to put another record on for me.

But presuming I am on my own and we're talking about Yes albums, then I would probably choose 'Tales from Topographic Oceans' as I have never managed to listen to it all in one go and I will probably have fallen asleep long before the end.

I can't believe it is Saturday night, people are out having fun and I'm sitting here thinking about what Yes album I am listening to when I die!!!

Having thought about your question a little more, I would probably choose the same track that I always used to listen to loud on headphones before going to sleep when I was a teenager, namely, 'In My Time of Dying' by Led Zep.
If you get the timing right, that could work a treat.

Good question, cheesefreek.

Geemac, definitely the whole album. And as you sound about a similar age to me(!) we have to face the 21st century - yes even as we slip away - and get the album on CD. No turning records over then. I've only got the album on a cassette so I've still got that to do. Hope I last till the shops open!
