Hi. My small daughter (who will be 11 then ) and I are travelling to New York and Canada to Ski and Snow Tube in October of this year. We are sailing back - 6 days on the Queen Mary 2. I have never been on a formal cruise before. Would anyone know what type of clothes I should be buying for us for our voyage.

Thanks for your help.

there are quite a few restaurants on the QM2 so really if you dont want to dress up in evening gowns for the formal nights, then you dont have to.there will only be 1 or 2 nights that the men have to wear evening suits and women some sort of evening gown,we dident bother,we just dined elsewhere on the ship.

Ordinary day clothes and a some nice party wear. As norman the dog said you can take evening wear if you want to go to the more formal restaurants. Personally I would go the whole hog because it would be lovely experience for your daughter.
The best place to start is http://boards.cruisecritic.com/ - from there you click on the link for Cunard and you will find a whole heap of useful info about the ship. You can join [it is free] then you can post questions. Another really useful link is a bit further down that main page under Roll Calls - again click the Cunard link and you can 'chat' with people on your cruise - great way to find if there are any other children on board.
You cannot see the Roll Call unless you are a member though.
This is the most useful site for cruises that I have ever found - and it is quite addictive!
As for what to wear - I think you will find that this question has been asked there a few times!
Happy cruisin'
Glad to see you have found a cure for your depression !

shout me down if you like, but if travelling to ski and snow tube in canada and suitable clothes are usually bulky,?? will they have room to pack DJ and evening dress that will only be worn once or twice ?
I would plump for smart casual that can be worn in Canada too.
