Hi everyone,
I've been to my doctors today and among other things we discussed the 'idea' of me quitting smoking.
Before you all tell me that it'll be the best thing I could do and how it's a disgusting habit, I would just like anyones opinion on Champix.
Has anyone tried it? If so how was it?
My problem is that I want to stop, mainly because of the cost, but I actually enjoy smoking. It's not a 'social' thing as I don't have a 'social life'
As with all drugs there are possible side-effcts but the one that worries me the most is the sleep problems, eg. vivid dreams. I haven't even agreed to take champix yet but I'm already finding myself getting anxious at the thought of the sleep problems i might get.
If anyone has tried this I would love to hear about it, even if it's not positive.
Thanks x

I haven't taken Champix but have used nicotine patches which also give you vivid dreams. My dreams have never been scary, just lifelike and very easy to remember the next morning. I quite enjoy it,wondering what I was going to dream about.lol.With the patches the vivid dreams disappear after a few days maybe its the same with Champix. Good luck with quitting. I stopped for 12 weeks, smoked again for 4 and am now on day 2 of stopping again.
i havent tried it personally but my friend did. its better than zyban which i thought was good. but how long does it work for. its new so who knows. i know zyban only stopped me for three months. well maybe i only stopped myself. i know how you feel i actually enjoy, perhaps grudgingly but do enjoy smoking. good luck.

I did give up a couple of years ago for 4 months without using anything. When I look back at how I managed it I realise it was at a very low point in my life, when I was very hurt and angry. It was as if it was the only thing I could have control over.
My life is such that I could quite easily make myself feel like that again, but obviously don't want to because apart from the fact that I stopped smoking it's not a very nice place to be!!!

At this moment I really think I might give Champix a go. If I go to a support group as well maybe we'll have a laugh discussing our 'wonderful' dreams!!

I really want to stop.

I also spend most of my time at home as a carer for my husband, who smokes. This means I can have a ciggie where and when I want.

this may not be the best time for you to stop if you are down or stressed. maybe you should try to cheer up a bit before you stop it cant be easy being a full time carer. can you not see if you can get some respite care or even a little help. all the best
I used the nicotinell gum and had no side effects whatsoever
