I have been bought an Orchid for mothers day.....

No care instructions. It's in a small pot, the plant is very tall with about 5 flowers & probably the same amount of buds yet to open. The soil looked very dry, I have stood it in a small bowl with a little amount of water in it. It is in my warmish living room. Am I looking after it right? It looks healthy enough. What are the ideal conditions/ care of Orchids, thankyou xxx

Generally speaking orchids do not like water & the soil should be dry. I would not stand it in water.
