My partner is a self employed delivery driver and we have just found out according to Livingstones 'Low Emission Zone', that by 4th October 2010, his van will no longer meet the emissions standards and will have to pay 250 PER DAY to drive in the zone. Considering we live within the zone, this will mean we will be charged 1500 PER WEEK!

We are unable to afford to buy a new van, and I fear most of what we can afford will not meet emission standards. What are we meant to do? This will force my partner out of work and we will be unable to manage financially. What is Ken thinking??

I am sure you can buy a filter/adapter to bring the van up to standard.

Then it will be a one off cost, not an ongoing penalty

There is an interesting thread here, CM:

This deals with another of the Mayor's wonderful plans and I referred to the "Low Emissions Zone" in one of my responses.

Many people may not realise just how far out the "Low Emission Zone" stretches. Unlike the so-called Congestion Zone it encompasses almost all of the Greaer London Area, which reaches out near enough as far as the M25 in most directions.

I'm afraid that your concerns will fall on deaf ears (if they fall upon any ears at all).
You have over two and a half years notice.

Would he not be thinking about upgrading his vehicle anyway by then?
