I am DESPRATE for a cat....however, im highly allergic. Ive tried to think of similar animals, but nothing is quite the same is it?

I heard they made a 'hypo-allergic' dog breed - have they managed this with a cat? Or is there a specific type of cat that i would be able to have with no (or ever LOWERED) allergies?

Thank You So Much for any answers, opinions or ideas

A sphinx maybe?
They're practicly hairless so cant imagine they'd cause your allergies to be too bad.
They are an acquired tatse though I think !

It isn't the hair on cats that many people are allergic too but the saliva when they clean themselves. so it is recommended that you wipe the cat down with a damp cloth a couple of times a week, don't let in onto your bed etc. I belive shorthaired breeds like the burmese etc are better but it is a reduction in symptoms not a cure.
A special breed HAS been developed in the US-where else-LOL........but there is a waiting list and it is VERY expensive. I read this several months ago...try googling allergy free cat.
British Blues do not shed hair they are expensive but lovely.
The Devon Rex and the Cornish Rex have coats that normally do not cause any reaction. They are expensive to buy though and you may have to put your name down with a breeder. Visit a breeder, explain your problem and spend some time with the cats before you buy to make sure that you do not suffer an allergic reaction.
