my mum hates to have her central heating on for long periods because of the same.

If you are certain there are no CO gases escaping (do you have it serviced regularly?) then perhaps try and have it on less.

Im not sure how good they are but people do say that humidifiers work for some.

Make sure that even if your heating is on during day that you still get cooler air in, fresh air over night can help Ive found, so always have a window slightly opne through the night.

I get this problem as well, especially when the central heating has been on for a while...... I bought some radiator humidifiers (you can buy ceramic ones for about 5 each or plastic ones for a lot less) that you just hang over the radiator after filling them with water. I got mine from B&Q, they are plastic and contain a sponge type *wick* that gradually releases water into the air. I also *water* my carpet !!! (just a few sprays from a water bottle). I used to put bowls of water under the radiator but found that the cats loved to drink from them !
