Windows Firewall

I use a laptop running Vista. A short while ago Windows Firewall started appearing and flashing in the task bar instead of working quietly in the background as it always had done. It requests permission to proceed and I then have to open it to make it go away.

It now happens every time I turn on the laptop.

Any cure known for this time consuming action?
