Another poor excuse to tax the world population.
If all these Politicians are really concerned about this issue would it not be a better if the emmissions from their mouths were put into far more serious issues, instead of having these obscene & elaborate world leader jolly boys outings, at our expense.
After all the world has survived & adapted for millions of years through different ages.
They may want to rule the world but, they will never CONTROL the world.

global warming isnt a myth, despite what you may think
The world has indeed survived and adapted however those adaptations were at times very, very, painful.

The climate is going to change

If we do nothing the climate will change faster, but there's little consensus on exactly what areas will change in which ways.

It's a little like playing Russian roulette with your children - only question is how many chambers are going to get loaded
The last time the earth experienced anything beyond the scale of the effects of the human explosion was the development of photosynthesis. This radically changed the atmosphere by introducing free oxygen. The biology changed forever.

Scientific models backed by the geological record tell us unequivocally that by adding billions upon billions of tonnes of CO2 to the atmosphere we are driving the planet into massive change. We are controlling the planet. Just not taking enough notice of the the course we have set at the helm.

Those who doubt that we are affecting the climate are blinded by their greed fueled addiction to rampant consumption.
It's maniy the fault of cows farting as far as I can tell. Obviosly we should eat them quicker. Veggies take note you are not doing your bit here!
Looks like you already made your mind about carbon emissions. Will you actually take into account other people's views?

It's not "the world population" that would be taxed, but just the rich ******** that have been polluting for the last 200 years. And that's a fraction of the world population.
It's the ones that have the money and the technology to cleanup their own pollution.

We western rich ******** have no excuse to complain about the cost of carbon poliices.
The US administration goes into panic mode at the thought of introducing carbon emission restrictions, since this could lose the government the backing of the all-powerful industrial lobbyists. But they are beginning to change their minds.
As an editorial in the current 'New Scientist' points out, 'finance houses and traders are licking their lips at the profits they hope to make from trading in carbon offsets, futures, derivatives, and much else'. And, 'We now live in a world where carbon markets are worth tens of billions of dollars a year'. Include the profitable technologies being developed to cut back on emissions, and we're talking about a lot of people making a lot of money, money, money.

A great many of the most strident voices in the climate change debate seem to be working on the principle of 'Hey, I can make a mint from all this!'. Governments too, are jumping on this bandwagon, with their notions of 'green taxes' on air travel, rubbish collection, gas guzzlers, etc, etc. All to get more money, money, money.

You can sympathise all you want to with the climate change altruists, but be aware that it's a greed-orientated society we live in, folks.

R1Man, as all those farting cows are domesticated and only bred for you meat-eaters' lust for blood, if you all went veggie, most of the cows would no longer be around...
Ok so lets eat them all as quick as possible then breed no more, tada! Then I can just eat fluffy bunnies and badgers etc. Perhaps some fish too!
graphs like this one show global warming to be a fact.

http://www.seed.slb.com/en/scictr/watch/climat e_change/images/carbonDioxideLevels.jpg

BUT - it didn't start with SUVs or coal burning. If you look at this graph - it's over 450000 years rather than 400 years as usually spun out - you'll see that global warming/cooling is part of a natural cycle, and it's regular as a heartbeat.

FURTHER: the carbon dioxide levels seem to rise with the temperature - but this happens AFTER the temp rises, not before, therefore carbon rises are an effect, not a cause. The figures for the present highest ever levels, which are undoubtedly man-made levels, do not seem to buck the trend re temperature one iota.

Here's a follow up post.

Imagine you've a power cut. Do you immediately change your fuses, or do you call next door to see what's happening there?

Well, someone had the idea to check temperature on mars, and there's some interesting conclusions...

Many thanks for all your views.
One scary issue concerns me,people who are brainwashed by the scare mongering propaganda being spewed out by the IPCC in the name of BIG PROFITs, who have turned it into a major global issue, in which to brow beat us all & relieve us of even more cash.
It would be an excellent idea if these people read about what is going on, by the people who KNOW what is going on (see whickermans excellent resources)
Scientific evidence, is what these politicians are afraid of, even several noteable US scientists are of the same opinion, which Bush pours scorn upon.
I am not suggesting global warming is not happening Adam, what I am saying is that it is a natural occurence, aided & abetted by the producers not the consumers.
However it is the consumer who will naturally shoulder the burden of the greedy capitalist producer.
