cleaning york stone

Can anyone suggest a product I can use to clean a natural (not polished) cemetery headstone. Its york stone, and is laid flat down on the ground, not upright.
The stone itself has gone dark and dirty mottled looking.
I dont want to damage the inscription by using the wrong cleaner. Thanks

The chances are that most of the 'dirt' is moss or lichen, so get a decent moss killer from a garden centre. Also found this site which offer some good advice.
