How to Link the number of children from a marriage?

My great grandparents were married in 1883 (Scotland). My grand father fought in WW1. There is sketchy family information that that he had brothers who were in WW1 but that they did not return. I have no definite information of how many siblings he had. Is their now a data base that links information on the number of children from a marraige .

If you have found the birth registration for your grandfather or have obrained a copy of his birth certificate, you will have the details of his parents and thier address, occupations and marriage date. This means that you know the information that needs to be on any certificate for any other siblings. by eliminating possibles you should be able to narrow it down, i think you can look at the original certs. on film , and i am sure the registrations are indexed like England and Wales, based on the registration district , you shoulod be able to pick possibles for checking the actual register, not 100% sure on the Scottish research aspect, but certainly that would work. It's possible to do this partially online but this site will be useful

In England I would send to the resiter office an order for an entry but ask that it only be sent if the details match the known facts.

Someone with experience of The Scottish registration access and availability should be able to advise further.

If they married in 1883, you should be able to find the family (including children) on the 1891 and 1901 censuses. The census would show the names and ages of the children born during that 18year time span.

Log onto the website that Dot gave you. (www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk) which is the official website for all births (1855-1955), marriages (1855-1930) and deaths (1855-1905) in all of Scotland. It also holds all the census information (taken every 10 years) since 1841 to 1901.

You can register and then search for your ancestors. If you find a possible match, you can request a copy of the image online.

Once you have the names of his brothers who died in WW1, you could look at www.CWGC.org (Commonwealth War Graves Commission) and see when/where/how they died, where they are buried and also the name of their next of kin.
