Afternoon people.

went for my wife's first scan today.
I have seen images from my 8 neices / nephews scans but there is nothing like seeing your own.
The movements and the heart beating just makes a huge lump in your throat.

something the scan people did say was that there was a 'fibroid' present within the Uterus. It is about 2 x 2 x 2 cm and is apparently affected by pregnancy hormones.

they say that it is nothing to worry about but, as a fella and therefore not adept to these matters, i'm worried for my wife and baby.

Is a fibroid anything to worry about? Have any AB'ers been affected by them during pregnancy?

any help is, as always, appreciated.

If theyve said not to worry then Im sure theres nothing to be concerned about but go with your wife to her next antinatal appt and ask her midwife for more info.

Isnt it lovely to see baby for first time on those scans. We dont realise how much we are worried until we heave a huge sigh of releif at seeing the little heart beating away.
If they said not to worry , I'd believe them - just enjoy the momemt - amazing isn't it
hey sarnie ken, mate my wife is due in 4 weeks, and i agree no words can explain the babies images during the first scan, absolutely breath taking and very emotional.

The doctors know what they are talking about, but, unknowingly sometimes they say things without realising how it affects us.

At the 2nd scan they told us that my wifes uterus was low, which is common, but if it was still low after 10 weeks then it may give us probelms. As you can imagine, we were very worried. But as the doctors had said, its common, and 10 weeks later everything was absolutely fine.

So dont worry mate! Hope everything goes well for you both and if you do have concerns speak to the midwife or your doctor!

All the best

Thanks for the replies everyone.
I'm not going to worry too much, especially as my wife worries very easily about the tiniest things.

I have the scan pictures saved to my laptop and I love taking a few minutes to look.
Can't wait for future scans and I intend to go wth my wife to every midwife, consultant and ante-natal visit.

Thanks again.
K
worrying is part of the whole process, it comes with the territory and you continue to worry throughout their lives Im sure.

My partner is just like you, he came to every appointment with the first, but with the second i told him that general antenatal appts werent worth him taking the morning off for. He was very upset when i got to hear babies heartbeat yesterday and he didnt :(

enjoy the scans, the 20 week one is amazing and very thorough and they will show you all the sections of the heart and everything forming and its just so special
