Angel - Season 4 Finale

When Team Angel are shown around the offices of W&H, Gunn is sent to the white room and comes face to face with a panther, then the scene ends. 

Can someone tell me exactly what happened in the that room?  I don't mind if it spoils plots for season 5, I'd just like to know how the encounter affects his character arc.

I think the panther showed him that they could make Gunn into a good lawyer and get him some recognition for his brains and still help people.  The panther is the replacement for the little girl.
