Can anyone help with recommendations for books to swot for University Challenge. I, and 3 friends, have made it to the televised rounds for University Challenge the Professionals. Having done the sample test to get this far, we all know the areas we are weak in. There are several books of actual questions from the show but I don't see any point in bying those as the same questions are unlikely to arise again. Can anyone suggest a publication tat isn't full of pop culture and entertainment trivia?

Thanks both. The series is being recorded over Advent weekend 1st/2nd December and I have no idea when it will be broadcast. We will be representing Salisbury Cathedral. I was thinking more of quiz books delboy but actually your answer is probably much more sensible. Thanks for your good wishes.
Well done macpark!! I'm so jealous - it's a never-to-be realised ambition of mine to be on UC!

Just 3 of many - I like "A-Z of (Nearly) Everything" by Trevor Montague (good lists); "Pears Cyclopaedia" & "Chambers Book of Facts".

I wish you all the very best on your journey to the final!
Good luck macpark and team My very favourite TV prog. I will cheer you on from my armchair.

mine too julesy - congrats macpark and best of luck. However, if you have got through this far, the likelihood of anything you "learn" from here on coming up is very slim. Maybe better to take relaxation classes and pop into your place of work and pray!!
Shall be rooting for you :0)
Congratulations macpark, and the very best of luck to you and your colleagues.

Another thank you for all your kind comments. I have found a book written by Bamber Gascoigne of Challenging quiz questions which is very helpful I now know that Hattie Carraway was the first women in the US senate in 1932 and that Keir Hardie founded the labour party in 1893. It's going to make the telegraph GK a lot easier!!
