Please what would your recommendations be for a vacuum cleaner and a hedge trimmer? I will shortly be shopping around for these items. The cleaner needs to be light weight but thorough, and the hedge trimmer likewise (with low vibrations). Many thanks for your advice.

Hedge Trimmer,
I use a cordless one bought from Aldis, it does the job, but not as good as a mains, i'll leave someone else to point you right on that.

Vacuum,
Thoroughly reccomend a Miele, light, powerful, and reliable.
go to the library and read through the which mags
Can honestly say I have never in 30+ years had a vacuum cleaner I would rave about. Will shortly get another and think I will go for a Sebo which I understand are available only from John Lewis.

A couple of friends do rave over theirs, one traded in her Dyson to get one.
Miele are brilliant, but I wouldn't have said they were in anyway light weight. if you can pop down to the shops and try one out for weight. On cleaning power it is second to none.
Hi Marymint, just another vote here for the Miele cleaner, it is brilliant. I would not have any other.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to answer my query.
buy a Henry hoover. It can be used without a bag and will last for years. Dont get a Dyson, they're over priced rubbish

Yes, I've just got rid of a Dyson. It was so heavy and cumbersome I couldn't carry it up the stairs! No wonder my daughter gave it to me, and it was still under guarantee! It had 2 filters which seem to muffle the power so I took them out, and it slightly improved, but it wasn't worth pulling a muscle for!!
