Why is it that whenever I turn on my PC, I am connected to MSN Messenger, despite me signing out when I turned the machine off? There must be a setting that I am missing. Please help

When you close Messenger it doesn't shut down completely. You will have a little icon in the bottom right hand corner of your screen (called the system tray). You need to right click on it and select 'exit' from the little menu that pops up, then it will close completely.

Also, you should set it not to start when windows starts by selecting Tools --> Options --> Preferences. Click on the little box that says 'Run windows messenger when windows starts' and remove the tick from the box. Otherwise it automatically loads as soon as you sign on to your computer.
Sorry, I meant to say the messenger icon (little blue people)will be in the bottom, right-hand corner of the screen.
If you're still having troubles and you have administrator privileges on your PC account you can go to :

Start > Run > Type in msconfig and check the Startup tab (far right tab) for any MSN messenger programs that may be running on Startup. If you find any, untick them and restart the PC.
