yes i remember this i was 8 yrs old. the rest of my family were awake all night as it was so noisy but i slept through it all. i remember waking up in the morning and my older brother told me to look out my window. the big tree in our garden had fallen down and only just missed the house!
i was 15 nearly 16 so cant remember much think i was more excited about being 16 and doing naughty things lol
I was 20 and had just moved to London. The first I knew about it was when I stepped out of my door only to find trees on cars, crushed fences and stuff blowing around like a town in a western.
I was awake all night as was everyone else in our little close, I think, except my son (Ben) who was 3 years old and slept through the lot!
We discoverd our greenhouse flattened the next day and most of the fences had blown down but we had very little damage compared to some unfortunate souls.
Shadow Man you posted the question so what were you doing !!
Yep, I lost two friends who were killed when a tree fell on their car in the Heathrow area. They were business partners who rented an office and warehousing unit from my boss. They had six kids between them. Even now I often think of the funny things they used to do to make the day more fun.
Sense4all that's so sad we never think about those that were really affected by it, little children loosing their parents. I remember reading about that actor who stared in Allo Allo being seriously injured in a car accident a tree fell on his car that night. So sad really isn't it . :(
I was living in a block of flats in aldershot , i mentioned to my wife that it seemed a bit blowy then went to sleep, i woke up to chaos.

theonlyone,

I was in Boarding School when the storm set the alarms off. The routine was to muster on the rugby field but it was simply too dangerous, so we mustered in the hall, against all fire regulations.

Nothing particulary exciting or tragic like poor sense4all, but a memorable morning.

My school was in North London/Herts border so it was fairly in the thick of things, but come 8am it was business as usual.
I was in the pub illegally as i was only 17
