Online this week I booked a weekend at a Travelodge in Brighton...only the menu scrolled up from December to October and I booked the wrong date. So I cancelled and rebooked for December. NOW...I see that the 'saver' room I originally booked is 'non-refundable'!!

I'll call them tomorrow to get my money back but how can they NOT refund me?

Anyone have similar experiences?

Because you agreed to a condition of contract and it's not their fault you didn't check the dates before agreeing!

You'll have to write in on this one otherwise you'll have some parrot on the line who cannot make a decision beyond the applicable rules
Actually, they have a web-support line for matters such as this. The challenge I think you're going to face is that there has now been a delay. Had you written instantly (within the same 5-10 minutes) it might be easier for them to understand.

Airlines take the same position with advance, non-refundable tickets. In that instance, the greatest challenge is that if you buy from one of those awful 'second-skin' booking engines, you're a bit lost because the airline instantly says you must now go to them for resolution.

I wish you every success
