When starting XP there are a lot of processes started. I have a single computer that connects to the net via a dial up connection and am not connected to a LAN. Does anyone know where there is a complete (or reasonably complete) list of all these services, what they do and if I need them running? I have also installed the fax software, for send only, and ZoneAlarm. Do any of the following need internet access and if so do any need to act as a server? Generic Host Process for Win32 Services? Application LayerGateway Service? Microsoft Fax Console? Fax Service? I realise at least one of the items related to the fax probably does need access but which one? Please note that ZA has for the last couple of weeks decided that i am on a WAN (PPP/SLIP) Interface, whatever that means. Thanks for any help provided. Geoff
