I recently saw an advert for an oil that can be put on scars. Does anyone know the name of it and what it's supposed to do?

Recently had an op on my hand and it's left me with a scar about 2 inches long. The scar is quite uncomfortable so i'd like to try massaging some sort of oil into it.

lavender oil from the health shop is great for scars
I think it's 'bio-oil'...
Bio-oil is very good for scar tissue use 3 times a day and it will do the trick
It is bio-oil (about 10 from chemists)but you can also use vitamin e oil from the Body Shop.

Thanks everyone - bio oil was the one I saw advertised but I may have a shop around.
Hi efc, I use Bio Oil all the time as it is also great for very dry skin. Funnily enough I bought a bottle for my Mum this afternoon as she's just had a knee replacement op and has an enormous scar (about 8-9 ins). The oil is available in 3 sizes and a small bottle (60ml) is 8.95. Expensive I know, but it lasts ages and a little goes a long way. I doubt it will help much to shop around for it as I've never seen it sold at a discounted price.

All the info you need on Bio Oil is right here... http://www.bio-oil.info/en/home
Hope you find the link useful. x.A.x

i've been using it to get rid of the stretch marks i got whilst pregnant and it has done nothing 4 me

Aprilis - thanks for the link, very useful. Didn't mean i'd shop around for bio-oil, I meant i'd see if there was any other alternatives. After seeing the link that you posted though I think i'm going to give it a try.
Due another operation soon as the first one wasn't successful so looks like i'll be needing a big bottle lol.
Oldgrape, stretch marks go kind of silvery after (quite some) time. Mine took flipping years and I wish I'd discovered Bio Oil when I was pregnant. I reckon the Bio Oil will probably speed up the process if you use it as per the instructions and stick with it. Your skin will certainly benefit from it even if the visible results are a while coming. I used it last year when I got hot cooking oil on my chest (don't ask, I am the Queen of stupid accidents!) and had 2nd degree burns. I have no marks there at all anymore.
BTW I'm not suggesting it will make all scars completely disappear. I suppose that would depend on the person and the severity of the scarring.
I haven't tried this, but I know that Vitamin E is good for scars, so a cheaper alternative might be to buy some Vitamin E capsules and prick a capsule and squeeze the oil out and rub into your scar.
Hi, efc. You can currently get Bio-Oil in Home Bargains shops for 4.95. When they have it in, buy as many as you can afford to as they change their stock all the time. :o)
