About 2 years ago my Mum passed away her and my Dad had a joint issa with the Halifax so we took the book in and Dad took her name off and put my name on so in the event of anything happening to him i could get the money out straight away (his idea not mine). This is when the fun started
First of all as soon as my name came up at his address they took 1400 out of the account without telling us and when he went to get the interest put on they told him that i owed them the money (i didint) after numerous phone calls it transpired that someone with the same name as me owed money to Halifax and varius other lenders eventually we got the money back and we thought that was the end of it but recently he has been getting letters addressed to me from dept collecting agencys demanding money i have tried ringing them and explaining that it is someone else even giving the details that i know ie she lived in Wales, she is older than me with kids ect but to no avail, they say it will stop but then they pass it to another agency what can i do?
They sent me 13 letters last week in 1 day which i returned after another lenghty call (my bill) but another 2 arrived this morning, the Halifax must have sold this dept on as there is no way that they could have associated me with Dads address as he has lived there for the last 20 years and i have lived at my address for the last 27 he lives up north and i live near London and the depts occured in Wales.Personally i would ignore them but Dads 84 and worried they will send bailiffs round to him he tried ringing the company himself today but they just said they couldent talk to him then threatened they will black his address blah blah
Sorry for rambling on but i hate to hear him this upset and scared but they wont listen to me.
Any ideas?

Well, on the threat of blacklisting his address they are talking cobblers. If your dad rings again and they say that tell your dad to get their name and tell them that he is reporting them to the financial ombudsman for giving false information.

All you can do is to tell your dad that he must keep sending the letters back as not at this address and it will get back to them eventually.

How did things get resolved from the Halifax? Did they eventually agree that it was not you that owed the money? Are these debt collectors anything to do with the Halifax? If so get the Halifax to contact the debt collectors and update their records.

Maybe get something in writing from the Halifax and pass this onto the other lenders who are sending your mail.

The Halifax returned the money when i pointed out to them were i lived and my date of birth which they had on my forms.I am going to try and contact them and see if they can stop this but mee thinks once dept has been sold on there is little they can do.Thanks for quick reply
Maybe having a letter from the Halifax saying that they had the wrong person would help. It was them that started all this.

I would also advise your father to go to the CAB and get their help too. After all, your father is 84 and I sure he can do without the worry of it all.

Once debt collectors get hold of a name they wont let go till they are 100% convinced that you are not that person. It is going to be a long process but please reassure your father that they cannot just send the baliffs round, there has to be a court case first so he need not worry about that.
You need to contact Http://www.experian.co.uk http://www.equifax.co.uk and http://www.callcredit.co.uk

For some reason you have been linked to another person by way of Alias - it is obviously incorrect.

You need to contact the above companies and file a Notice of Disassociation (or similar) and have your Alias (in Wales) removed from your file. Currently every time a lender does a credit report it is linking you to this person.

One you have filed your details with the above, this will stop any other companies linking you two together.
