Is there any way that history can be cleared off a PC without having to do it manually i.e. clicking on it and pressing delete then return to confirm that you want to delete the selected and so on for every item of history?

go into tools. press delete files and delete cookies and delete history......i think its pretty much stored on your computer somewhere else anyway but u'd have to be a whizz on computers to know where!
For IE

Click on the "Tools" menu, selecting "Internet Options'... On the "Internet Options" multi-tabbed dialog box that appears... near the bottom of the dialog box... you should see this prompt:

"Days to keep pages in history:"

If you want your history pages to expire after seven days, place a 7 in the box and press OK... If you want pages to expire sooner... enter a smaller number... If you want pages to expire later... enter a larger number.

Firefox allows you to set the browser to clear all private data...passwords/browser history etc on closing the browser window...it's a much safer browser to use as well.
You'll need to go to content and click on clear ssl cache as well. Otherwise you'll still see visited websites in the address bar. (thats for Internet explorer)
Download CCleaner (free). You can choose what you want it to remove.
