Sounds like a sound card issue maybe brought on by the Net MD software. I suggest you go into your device manager (control panel - system hardware) and check the device is working properly. If it is or it isn't I suggest you delete the device and then scan for automatic updates and windows will find the device and install the device for you again. Make sure you have the drivers for the soundcard first! If this doesn't work then physically removing the soundcard and rebooting and then shutting down and putting it back in and rebooting is another method that has worked for me. Let me know how you get on.
Meant to also say it is worth uninstalling all sound software first too. When you reinstall the software I would suggst you choose your favourite mp3 player as your only music player otherwise the latest one you install will want to be your default player and possibly could conflict. Once that is installed you should be ok to instal the latest windows media player but make sure that mp3 is not checked as default media when installing.

Thanks for all the info - sound a bit too complicated for me so i think i may phone the shop i bought it fro mand ge them to come out? I was hoping for an explanation that was simple! I will probably print out your suggestion and try - but i think i may do more damage?! thanks anyway!
I'm no whizz-kid, but if I were you I'd go to Windows Update and make sure you have the latest editions of all your software and d/l the latest version of the WMP
Kazaa Platinum http://www.kazaa-platinum.com recently came into market. I bought it & I think this was the best choice I ever made.

It gives me specific results for my music & movie downloads, unlike Limewire or any other Kazaa.

It also gives a free anti virus programme , free Ipods/ Mp3 transfer software, free CD burning software free, all in just 29.50 $ one time lifetime fee.

I must say it is a revoultion in music / movies downloads.
