Hi All

I am just about to put my house on the market and I was wondering, once I have accepted an offer on it, how long is it reasonable for me to take finding a new house?

I wouldn't want the buyer to pull out because I was taking too long to find something else, but I also don't want to rush and not get a new house that is 100% right for me.

Thanks

it really depends on the position of your buyer. Some are stuck in a long chain and you will have more time others will be first time buyers so again will not be in an immediate hurry. Other peoples sales will depend on a quick move so will need to act fast.

I would say reasonable is a few weeks but dont be rushed into buying something you dont want. There is always the option of renting until something you want comes up.

Thanks very much, that sounds like good advice.
as hawk says, you can move into rented if necessary (which is what i did to secure the sale of my flat). always remember that you can't proceed with buying a new place if you don't sell your old one, so don't jeopardise any solid offers on yours just because you are not ready to move. it's is a fine balance!
