Anybody have any good cures for hiccups? Ive tried all the usual ones like drinking water backwards, breathing into a paper bag, going BOO to myself, fingers in the ears and reciting alphabet backwards but no relief, hic

try drinking a glass of soda water quickly. eat something with peppermint in it ,

Thank you Crete hic Ive got the peppermint but will have to pop out for soda water (worth it if it works tho cos Ive had them for 3 hours now and they can go forever sometimes).
I hold my breath and swallow 3 times. Quite difficult but always works for me. Give it a go.Good luck.
not very random but count your breaths so breathe in 1,2 then breathe out 1,2. it works every time for me and other people i've told to do it

Thanks everybody for your answers. I actually tripped on some wet leaves on the garden path on my way to get the soda water and guess what? the hiccups disappeared! Ive made a note of all the suggestions though for the next attack. Er...... anyone know any cures for a broken leg? just kidding, I only grazed my elbow.
Ive found a few sips of vinegar help. It's such a shock to the system that the hiccups usually forget to function.

You do mean sips not drips?Thanks Wendy, I will try it in future but even the thought of it is making my taste-buds call a meeting.
I went to a cranial osteopath for treatment for my back; one of the things he found & treated was my tight diaphragm and now I rarely get hiccups. (It's also been known to treat glue ear & sleeping problems & all sorts!)
This never fails.....Have a glass of liquid at the ready.......Now say this .....Hiccup 1 hiccup 2 hiccup in another town that will cure my hiccup.As soon as you've said the rhyme take 3 sips from you drink.Your hiccups will be gone,don't ask me how but it works everytime,all my friends and family now use this.If you hiccup whilst saying the rhyme you have to satrt again,it has to be said all the way through without a hic,if you say it fast enough it can be done
i have a way to cure other peoples hiccups u ask em what did they do last weds for example n keep askin em what they did on certain days and because they're thinkin hard what were they doing they loose their hiccups

So it seems that one has to 'trick the hiccups' , it's fascinating stuff isn't it. Thanks everybody for all the very varied answers. Ive made a note of all of them and in a way Im looking forward to the next episode of hiccups so I can try them out and see which one works for me.
close your eyes hold your breathe and think of a white animal in a green field. only works once dont ask me how or why it works and no im not pulling your leg lol try it !!

I will try it, thanks! I think thats what must have happened when I tripped up on my way to buy soda water to try, I was so busy thinking about my elbow that I completely forgot about the hiccups until I suddenly realised they were gone, mind over matter once again!
last one for you - works for me (if you dont mind looking silly)

use your index finger to close your ears, you little fingers to close your nostrils, and your second smallest fingers *gently* on your eye lids. DO NOT take a deep breath in, hold your breath for as long as you can, aim to count to 40.

hope it works for next time (well, i hope there isnt a next time...)

Have not tried it but worth a shot, a large spoon of Peanut Butter, because it is so thick the action used by having to swallow it , is supposed to stop them !

Well here I am 8 mths later and have just been going through all the suggestions kindly given to me by you's answer bankers. The job was finally done by the suggestion given to me by clairey-s which went like this ........................ use your index finger to close your ears, your little fingers to close your nostrils, and your second smallest fingers *gently* on your eye lids. It worked within 30 secs, great stuff clairey! cheers!
