Keep on getting a bit of an ant problem, they keep trying to make nests in the brick work of my house. We used to use ant powder or an ant gel previous years but we now have a toddler who likes to put things in her mouth! Any one got any ideas what would be safe to use? (we have trided using boiling water but they keep coming back.)

Apparently they don't like chalk very much, draw a thick line around where they come from. If your tot gets into it, it's not likely to do much, if any, harm. In hot countries you can buy something similar especially for ants, but I've never seen it here. Good luck!

brilliant, will try this tomorrow.
You could try Talc powder they don't like this very much either. I have tried it and it seems to work well.
Yes have to agree Talc works well, did for us and no harm to children and animals ect.Just remember if its windy you will have to repeat.Good luck.
You could try using Red Ants ...They fight and kill black ants!! 5 reds will kill 20 or more black ants easily. Sorry if this sounds a bit gruesome but it does work. and the red ants clear off afterwards. You can find red ant colonies by looking under paving slabs .
