laptop battery

hello. i bought a laptop from ebay and somehow the battery actually works :o

Problem is the battery lasts for about 1 hour 45 minutes. how long should i be expecting to get out of a new laptop battery? i dont want to buy a new battery if this is the normal battery life for a laptop. its an ibm thinkpad t42 if you're wondering

What have you been doing? Watching dvd takes a lot of resources and will quickly drain a battery, but word processing with everything set to maximum efficiency should be a lot easier on the battery.

IBM claim just over four hours, tests have shown 3 hours.

well i got a little icon telling me 1 hour 45 min. if i darken the screen, mute the sound, etc the value doesnt change

boobesque, I dont want to be a pain but I dont think it was a good idea to buy a battery from ebay,sorry.

Leave it on charge overnight and see if that helps.

Is it a new laptop?
