Can anyone remember the average price of a pint in London in 1978? And a packet of fags?

I think they were both around the 60p mark.
Ahhhhhh the sweet year of my birth........and i could have had a pint for 60p.....although being 3 months premature it would have probably killed me......but then it would have killed me anyway.........i'll shut up now
I think I recall the price of a pack of cigarettes hitting 1 sometime around 1980, but haven't been able to verify this.
I worked as a barmaid in 1976 and I can categorically state that a pint of stella was 26pence! As were spirits.
reassuringly expensive, eh Hellyon?

actually, that's not bad for a pint of spirits...
I was definately paying around 50p a pint in 1978. Cigarettes were about 40p fot 20. The beer would have been a light and bitter (because you always got more than a pint) - and I was smoking JPS in 1978
My first decimal pint was 13p
and that would be 1971 - a bit early

very high inflation in the mid eighties

London prices were about double thos in the countries
When Margaret Thatcher was elected in 1979:

Beer 34p (pint of bitter)
Cigarettes 58p (20)
