If a non-smoker regularly chewed nicotine gum (i.e like Nicorette and other "give up smoking" chewing gum) could/would they become addicted to nicotine?

Yes, it has been proven to be the case.

These products are not meant to be used long term and are just a crutch to help break the smoking habit.

yes they are addictive. my wife gave up smoking no problem using nicotine gum 2 years ago and is still having between 5 and 10 pieces a day. i have begged her to stop using it as it will cause problems over long term but she can't seem to get off it.
