"Thermal shock"

According to the computer "expert" who sold us a laptop computer which has had so many poblems I can't even remember them all, the latest one is that the battery has gone into thermal shock. Is this possible? If it is, can anyone tell me what could have caused it and how it can be fixed. Thanx.

How old is it ? If its still under guarantee give him a thermal shock and return it !!!
