i was going to ask this question myself last week, but found it had already been asked and answered quite a lot. one of the answers was to use cif (used to be called jiff), the white cream one, not the thin one, and it's worked a treat on the frames. it's taken off old, grey-looking paint, and the general grey dullness that comes with age. takes a bit of effort but it really does work when nothing else did.
I'm thanking you for the answer which I'm sure tickledtrout will appreciate. It's something I needed to Know...Ron.

Thx for the advice will try it
My new best cleaning tip is to use dishwasher tablets disolved in hot water. You can use this solution to clean anything, but it works a treat on anything greasy esp kitchen units and hand prints. I used it on my kitchen units, all my woodwork and also window frames and they have all come up like new. p.s. also disolved some in the bath and it was great - I have also read somewhere that biological washing powder is great for baths and showers as well.

Not even thought about using them, have used washing powder to clean floor though and its miles better than anything else
