Where in the UK or Europe can you buy Class 2 / double insulated light fittings at reasonable prices?. All my searches find only 1 web based supplier always at the top of the google list!

I had an electrician quote me over 5,000 just to redo my lighting circuits, its not new cabling, but not old either! I just want to replace my lights with nice modern fittings or even track lighting in a couple of rooms maybe, but believe that plastic or double insullated lights are the only real option unless I part with large amounts of cash?

Thanks

Please clarify your question. There is no particular reason to want to fit double insulated fittings on lighting circuits in the UK, so you won't find suppliers. You say that you are being quoted 5000 for replacing the light fittings. This is ridiculously high even using extremely high quality light fittings - if you saying this quotation does NOT replace any of the cabling? There is no reason to need to replace the cabling to the lighting circuits if you have recent cabling (last 50 years) - unless you are saying you do not have Twin & Earth cabling?

Thw quote is to reqire the light circuits with no fittings - exhorbitant! I have 2 wires only in my lighting circuits, Red and Black cable. There is no Earth.

I understand that if I install double insulated lights I won't need an earth, hence don;t need a re-wire.

I just want to know where I can get them from (they are used more in Europe arn't they?) and will I have anu issues with UK electricians not wanting to install them?

Thanks
Ah now I understand, and you are correct in thinking you can't install anything other than pendent light fittings without an earth. Your cabling can't be that new - Twin & Earth has been around at least 50 years. Time to bite the bullet and invest in rewiring? - the cost of which should be around 2000 including all rewiring - socket ring mains as well.
I'm afraid I can't answer the double insulated stockists question.
Hi for the first part there is no regulation that says lighting circuits have to be earthed, providing you use plastic pattresses and pendants or double insulated fittings, How big is your house, ? because 5,000 is ridiculous, just the lighting in a normal house should be under 1,000, here is a link for double insulated fittings, hope you get it sorted, Ray
