is it possible to do this without buying multiroom?

i have a spare box and would like to set it up just as a freeview box in another room but because i've only one aerial leading to the dish the spare box says no signal being received.

i`m afraid you can`t dave, unless you get a double cable dish like you get with sky +
Yes you can Dave - you need to purchase a Quad LNB (around 10 on ebay) - the lnb is the bit that sticks out of your sky dish.

You replace this - not to bad a job and then you run another cable from the lnb to the new room.

This shows you how to do it - though gears actually took it one step further to get sky plus: http://www.coolsmartphone.com/news2322.html

thanks, does this mean i can watch seperate channels or will it be the same in both rooms?
If you have separate boxes you can watch separate channels - but if you don't have a second sky card you will only be able to watch free channels (BBC1, BBC2 etc)
