What is a 42 in UK sizes? I've done a google search and some sites say it's a 12, some a 14 and a couple say 16

All I know is 36 is an 8.

A 12 in Italy only, I think. To judge from my "bilingual" clothes labels, in (most of?) the rest of Europe, a 42 is generally considered to be equivalent to a 16. I am a Brit living in Germany and take a German 40-42 and a British 14, occasionally 16.
