No car to trade in - what discount can I expect?

Due to someone driving into the back of my car, it has been written off, and the other guy's insurance is paying me a lump sum.
I'm thinking of buying a year old car advertised at �9,000.00.
My question is, with no car to trade in, what sort of discount can I haggle the dealer to give me?

You can try to get a discount anywhere - most dealerships give an overallowance on part exchanges (they will give more away than the car is worth to them). They will be able to discount the car by at least that amount. If a dealership will not give you the deal that you want, then find one that will. It is a competative market, and somebody with no part exchange should be in a good position.

go to the BCA, A room auction, that's where the dealer would buy the car. If he's selling for 9k he bought for 6.5 he'll come down 1k at a push. But just go to the auction yourself and cut out the middle man. For 9k you'll get something that the dealer would knock out for at least 11K. Dealers only exist because car buyers are clueless.

Trade one garage off against another and try to get as many options thrown is as you can, floor mats, radio upgrade, full tank of fuel etc.

Make a start with a daft offer and take it from there...you will be amazed!!!!Or...why not buy one yourself from the auction....can't go wrong...you've got the cash...
