How can I make Halloumi cheese taste less salty? I tend to either grill or fry it.

I eat it with either a chunk of pineapple or dried peaches....the sweet/salty combo is lovely
When you've grilled or fried it, drizzle over either some good Balsamic (the thick, posh type), or a good viniagrette. The slight sweetness of the balsamic cancels out some of the saltiness, as will a slight acidity from a viniagrette. The 'opposites' rule works for over-salted food as well - a squirt of lemon will counteract an over-zealous hand with the salt, as will salt for over sharp things - am I making sense here as I'm typing this in a rush and haven't got time to read it all back!

I see what you mean, it's more a matter of matching it with something than being able to de-salt it somehow!
Oh, in that case - a salad of baby broad beans in a lemony vinaigrette, grilled halloumi
Sliced tomatoes, chopped fresh oregano or marjoram, garlic infused olive oil, grilled halloumi
baby spinach, fresh peas, crispy bacon, mustardy vinaigrette, grilled halloumi
Grilled ciabatta, rubbed with garlic, dribbled with olive oil, sun-dried tomatoes, tapenade and grilled halloumi
and finally
chopped capers, those little sweet gherkins, spring onions, cooked, warm baby new potatoes, crispy bacon and
grilled halloumi.

Can i come to supper, now?

You should wrap it in vine leaves...... and then gril of fry them and serve it with tzatziki or tahini paste. The rest of the flavours will detract from the saltyness.
you can also slice it, sprinkle with fresh herbs and plenty of cracked black pepper, ass a sliced tomato and some crushed garlic and wrap the whole lot up in filo pastry and bake it.

If you don't want to eat pastry, you can do the same, but wrap it up in foil - works just as well, just add a little oil.
ooh, sorry, I meant ADD a sliced tomato!
if its too salty for you, surely you would be best advised to choose another cheese,
too simplistic???
ooh i love it! I either dry fry it, and then make a little dressing, with olive oil, lemon zest, lemon juice and a finely chopped red chilli, it scrummy. or dry fry with tomatos and put in a wholemeal pitta. or just with salad and tzatziki. yummy, ooh also bbq it (careful as it falls off) with m&s sticky chilli marinade

i love halloumi but I want to do it for another person who has to have low salt so i was hoping i could remove some of the salt somehow. looks like they are going to have to be happy with mozzarella! thanks for all the recipes though, lots for me to experiment with!!!
Cut the middle, about 2inch, of the middle of a cougette, stuff a slice of halloumi in, add a few fresh mint leaves, wrap in tin foil, bake on bbq, 15 mins, loveeelllllly
On tv recently a chef had a salty cheese and he said to run it under cold water before using reduces saltiness. Not sure which cheese he was using but it might be worth a try xx
Eat it with sweet chilli sauce and rocket the combination balances out the salt .Mmmm
