Not necessarily. There may be a covenent that restricts running any kind of business from a house. My house has this restriction.
It depends on what you mean by 'taxi'. A Hackney Carriage Licence which allows the operator to pick up at taxi ranks, and be hailed the street, and a Private Hire Licence, which only allows the operator to collect pre-arranged fares, are different. Consult your local council for the full list of rules and how they affect you.
You may run into change-of-use planning permission problems. For example, use of land for parking commercial vehicles, and use of your shed as a office might each need planning permission. Partly it will depend on the scale -- again, ask the council.
