Ok you are scared s**t of spiders and you are on your own or with your childrens but do not want to scare them too so what do you do?
exterminates them by any means and force until there is no more trace of them or gently, easy in your hand taking that thing in the garden; next door with the snails.

i remember hearing a blood curdling scream coming from my eldest sons bedroom when he was about 8! I ran up the stairs at a speed of knots and he was stood on his bed, screaming that there was a tarantula on the floor. I looked down to see a spider the size of my thumbnail tootling across the carpet! LOL
I still bring that up for entertainment value but he's just as scared now he's nearly 16!
OK, i'm going to admit. I sneak them into my neighbours garden.
Well come on, its not that bad, apart from they are terrified of spiders and spend a lot of time in the garden.
I never kill spiders. I realise some people are scared of them, but that's no reason to kill them!

I either gently pick them up or put a glass over them and slide a piece of card under the glass and put them outside.
Ah but whispy , they will just turn round and come back in !
pick them up and put them outside
nuoyg - Well, in about October time, we know they are gonna be lurking, so I keep away from the bushes and weeds, and always let someone else open the gate. I was chatting to a neighbour once and a huge one literally came running over the wall at me, I sprayed, and sprayed with spider/cockroach killer, but nothing would stop it's onslaught. I could have walked away, bit I grabbed a broom and walloped it with the hard bit, but it took several attempts for it to die. Mr N just slams them between two rocks, but I'm terrified that I'll miss and it'll run over my hand. For some reason, they do not come into the houses.
netibiza, they don't sound v pleasant. At least they don't come indoors though. I don't like it around september in the UK as they all seem to be in the back garden and hanging the washing out is like an SAS operation to ensure I don't get spidered.
I use spray bleach, it's not that strong that it ruins carpets and the froth keeps 'em still while they die. Cruel but they come in my house that's what they get!!
What's the poor spider done to any of you.I have a little gadget I got from Betterware and just scoop it up close it then tip it outside.
I have always found neoprene to be effective in controling spiders, insects, scorpions, centipedes and pretty much any other creepy-crawlie critter.
If you want to live and thrive, let a spider stay alive.!!!
OK you lot the best way to get rid of spiders is to buy a sonic repella.
They cost around 30 but should cover the whole house. They don't kill spiders they just repel them. Also the get rid of rats. See humaine and effective.
You can buy them here:

Its the model i use, or one of the models i use. Gets rid of them like that
I have to say,it's great to know there are so many wimps like me around...you tend to think you are the only one.Nuoyg...you sound like me..really pathetic in the face of thingys..your description of the steps that happen,is spot on lol !!
All you anti-spider people are warped! Better a house full of spiders than filthy flies any time! When my daughter was small we had a HUGE house-spider in our house...we nicknamed him Hairy(the spider) and would gleefully follow him as he scuttled along the skirting boards. lol! At least my daughter didn't grow up with an irrational fear of one of nature's helpful creatures(in this country at least).
Poor spiders...!

I must admit they don't really bother me, I just use a glass and pop them outside. Can't kill them, or I don't sleep for guilt!

Ants have plagued my kitchen though, and I must admit I do squash them :S Sorry!
So my conscience isn't that pure...
