Apologies if this has been asked before, but do contestants get a wage.

I've never seen this mentioned in the press, but surely contestants risk losing their house etc, if they don''t earn a living for several weeks.

Nobody seems to mention being worried about giving up a job/career, so I'm thinking Channel 4 guarantees some kind of financial assistance.

they risk this all for the 100,000 prize and some possible fame after.

Thats the whole point.

I've found this after scouring the Internet, I would still be interested if anyone KNOWS what they are paid.

I have worked as a writer/producer on a reality program and yes, all contestants are paid a weekly salary. This also serves as a legal deterrent to future suits as it confirms their status as employees of the production company. It was not SAG rates.

Cheers True Blue - I've just never seen it in print. I would imagine otherwise, some contestants would actually have to get a loan to cover their stay in the house.
I was on the second series of Bad Lads Army on ITV - we never got a penny for all 4 weeks of torture although the series prior to ours saw each recruit netting 4k each, a grand a week and the top recruit getting 10k. We were chuffed when we found that out.

Cheers for the info, Kinetic. I just think you would have heard of more contestants being in fiinancial trouble, If they're not paid at all.
