Why are you calling it 'muzac'?
Question Author
Muzak is a term given to music that has a function other than pure entertainment. I think the name derives from a company who used to produce it for Supermarkets etc. You often find muzak in supermarkets or lifts (elevators) which helps aleviate background noise but tends not to draw your attention away too much. Musak on telephone lines while your call is being held tends to be a bit more sophisticated as it is meant to keep the person being put on hold entertained and probably trick them into thinking that they have not been on hold for as long as they actually have.
