I have just moved house and to a bigger garden. Unfortunately my old flymo is not up to the job. I would like to but a petrol self propelled lawnmower. Having a look about mountfield seem a good brand, has anyone got any experience of them or another other model? Looking to spend up to 250.00

Second question, I presume you need petrol and oil? Are they any special brand I need to fill up with?

Many thanks

On my 2nd Mountfield, first one gave up after a number of years of great service so just bought a 2nd one. Never had any bother with either of them.
There is a specific oil you will need, which your supplier should have - I got mine at B&Q. As for petrol, unleaded runs fine.

Hope this helps
There is a problem with Mountfield's inasmuch that they use different manufacturer's engines. In my experience the only engine worth having from them is a Briggs & Stratton. However, I changed to Honda a while back and it is much better - easier and certain start, no loss of power over time, and with an overhead cam shaft altogether better.
Yes Mountfield are good, but look up Champion recomended by Which magazine as a cheaper alternative.Greenfly
We have an acre of lawn and have a lawn tractor. However
I prefer to use the faithfull Honda. They cost a bit more but they outperform the competition.
