I have been running Microsoft Money on my desktop (Windows XP) for some time and I have now installed it on my laptop (Vista). I have also transferred the data files, but for some reason Money does not recognise these. Can anyone help?

Is it because the data files were created with XP? Money is notoriously touchy, I've used it for years and every time I get a fresh PC I always seem to have trouble though I always get there in the end. You say you transferred the data files...did you create a new account in Vista on the laptop and then ask it to restore from a backup. If so did you point it towards a backup you created in XP on the PC or did you simply move the data files across which might not work. Try the restore from backup and let me know how you got on as I've just got a Vista laptop and am considering the same course of action as yourself.....good luck
