Go to a salon for a consultation as they're usually free, whatever you do don't use bleach and bleach really is the only way of lightening it. Toni and Guy do colour corrections which lift colours rather than bleach them, but you haven't said what sort of dye it is... is is a permanent one? if not how long til it fades out naturally anyway? If i were you, i would give up trying to do it on your own and go and get professional advice, hope you get it sorted! x
NO, NO, NO leave it alone. I LOVE black hair.

thanks for your replies bob and becks! i have since been advised from friends to try washing up liquid, vinagar and wash n go! i'll give them a go - not all at once!! will let you know if it works!
Put a whole bottle of head and shoulders on as if you were applying an intensive conditioner. Every 15 minutes, check a strand to see how much of the colour has been stripped out.

Half an hour to 45 minutes should do the trick, then rinse out and condition
Seems like a perfectly good excuse to buy a hat!!!
Thats happened plenty of times 2 me. It is a good idea to let it fade. Within 2-3 weeks the dye would have faded. Dont keep on putting dye on top cause it would take longer to get rid of. another gud one to use is 2 in one shampoo. You could put red streaks through which would look pretty good. (smart) colour is really good and comes out well. You can get this from superdrug
NEVER ATTEMPT TO PUT MORE COLOR OVER A COLOR,it just doesnt work and damages hair further. got to the drug store and buy john frieda's Blonde hightlight activating shampoo,it has natural lemon juice and other things that will lighten hair up with every use. I just colored my hair a darker blonde that i didnt like at all,I used this product and in a day I saw it get lighter, two weeks it was back to the way it was before. hair colors always appear darker when you first use them but will lighten, a process called "oxidizing".Next time choose a slightly less dark color if this one wasnt what you wanted. In the meantime, use hot oil treatments to keep hair in optimal shape.
