What were your views on this very strange programme, I felt desperatly sorry for him at times, and then when he was dancing (more like running on the spot) and performing his striptease (with 2 pairs of pants) I was sure it had to be a joke. The programme gave him confidence, which he desperatley needed, but I worry rowdy teenagers will now pick on him in his home town and destroy all the confidence he has built up.

I only saw a few minutes of it, and it was the part where he took off his tousers, then boxer shorts then underpants !
How many people wear two pairs of underwear ?
Manybe I missed something and he was instructed to.
Miss Inquiry, you beat me to this post! I was absolutely flabbergasted that a man in his position i.e. shy and nervous would undertake such a thing on television in front of millions of viewers!

Fair enough, if visiting this school was the only way he felt he could overcome his shyness and shed his virginity but to do it with a camera crew there too? Strikes me as odd.

Also, that school really should enlist some younger, better looking teachers, they're really not being fair to their students by making them touch someone old enough to be their gran!
This programme was hilarious! I cringed and laughed as i sat there watching it with my mum and boyfriend!

We said exactly the same about a such a "shy" person being able to go on National TV and parade about with his c0ck out with a 60/70 odd year old woman!

Was funny to watch though. He was extremely sweet and innocent and i felt so sorry for him.

But also, he is only 26! Is it just me or is that still quite young? I know there's pressure for men in particular to lose their virginity but he wasn't exactly 30 or 40?!

The "STRIPTEASE" - that was one of the funniest things i've seen on TV for AGES!! I asked my fella if he could do that for me later - lol.
well i felt very uncomfortable watching this, there was something just not quite right about it? i understand he was diagnosed as a 'bit slow' but surely most lads/blokes that just wanted to 'experience' sex would just go to a prostitute? it all felt too 'Mother and Son' for my liking (which is probably another programme entirely)
i missed the last 5mins so did he manage it in the end or not?
Oh and if he thought he was a laughing stock before..................................well - he's done himself no favours whatsoever now!

Curlyperm, he managed it with the last teacher (followed by some imaginative shots of fountains and waterfalls around Amsterdam).

Just before the credits rolled we were told since making the programme he has a new job @ the local cinema, but he is still looking for a special friend!
And another thing - was I the only one amazed when one of his teachers said that 'he's not sleeping with himself"?!?

What 26 year old man doesn't do that??
lol curlyperm - yes he lost his virginity to the last "coach"/prostitute!

And oh my god - how funny did his feet look when the older "coach" gave him a hand job!!!

It was sooooooooo funny! i was just waiting for him to get cramp!! lmfao.
pmsl, i was it stitches. Why 2 pairs of underpants? It was as if he wanted to wear Y fronts but had been told that boxers were better.

Nat, i was laughing at his feet too! lol
I didnt watch it but I though the whole point of it was to get him ready to have sex in a loving relationship, why waste it on his teacher
dam i missed it , it sounds funny. is it on again any time ?
donegal - might be repeated on More4 or something.

Defintely try and catch it!
You see the trailers, and the title of the documentary and the immediate thing to think is that it's going to be another piece of titillating 'documentary' making as an excuse to see a few breasts and get people giggling into their cushions.
To an extent the final third was just that, but for the first two thirds, it was actually rather touching. There was no doubt that some of it, including the mother-son role that seemed to take shape was pretty odd, but it just seemed neceasarry for him somehow. How was he ever going to get through any of it without professional help of some sort? He's never going to talk to a girl, and even if he did, then what?

Quite why you'd do it on TV, and why you would where 2 pairs of pants I have no idea.
I thought the show was great. I cringed and laughed but at the end my heart really went out to the guy.
I lost my virginity pretty late by modern standards and although it was never an issue for me it did seem to be something people would bring up a up a lot. It seemed that society (friends, schoolmates) was uncomfortable with the older virgin. People would be mean and call me frigid etc. I simply had not met the right person and wasn't the type to jump into bed with the first person that came along.
Admittedly I don't know how I would feel if I had remained a virgin well into my twenties.
I can't help but feel that this was just the tip of his emotional iceberg. I sort of got the impression that his family felt that as soon as he'd "wham bam thank you maamed" his life would be A OK.
I think the issue was deeper rooted (isn't it weird when you're writing about sex how everything sounds like an innuendo?!) and they guy might have benefited more from seeing a psychiatrist or a cognitive therapist and start at the beginning instead of dealing with the smaller issue of his virginity.
As a quite an unconfident person myself I was dreading watching the show but I can only applaud him for his bravery in dealing with this sensitive issue in front of the nation. I can only hope that he doesn't suffer any spiteful repercussions from the locals and finds someone to love him and want him and thus help boost his confidence.

drchasuble - I can only admire your response to what some have found a laughable issue and at some points me included. You're right, he really shouldn't have tackled his virginity before his emotional issues. If you take yourself back to the peer pressure of losing your virginity you can completely relate to how he feels and most of us can only imagine how it must feel to be a 26 yr old virgin and to live with the same emotions and pressure rattling around your head.

He is clearly underdeveloped emotionally, is that due to his having to stay a year under his peers or lack of emotional stability / support from his parents - we never really got a background as such. Was he an only child? When did his parents split up etc.? All of these are and can be contributing factors.

I merely think that he thought what was stopping him from truly 'growing up' was his virginity and was surprised to find that it wasn't.

did anyone else notice he had big holes in his socks? or am i just being too picky? : /
just read the daily mail bit and i think they missed the whole point about the show. i thought it was really interesting (if not a bit strange!) and something a bit differenet to the usual soaps, cop dramas, reality tv on 24/7. if they find it that offensive dont watch it i think the title 'virgin school' really said it all :)
curlyperm, I spotted the holes in his socks, and after his Nan had been out with him to buy all his clothes too, how sad. James strikes me as someone who can go on to be a generous and loving partner however. It must have taken a lot of courage (Dutch or otherwise) to make the film. As for his coaches they all seemed like wonderful people, particularly the first (intimacy) coach. I wish my first time had been with someone as caring and thoughtful as she. It was very moving when he had to say goodbye, I'm glad he had the experience, I like working girls, but many don't have the time or inclination (or indeed nouse) to help someone in his situation. I do agree however that the striptease was anything but erotic, and I wish the editor had seen fit to remove it, I guess they kept it in for a "bit of a laugh"
If you read this "Go James"
Question Author
New Dazzler & Curly, your both right, he did have huge holes in his socks, odd seeing as he packed a few brand new pairs in his case before he left! Maybe, like the Guns & Roses top, they were his favourite!

Too Right - "Go James", if it's given him a confidence boost it worked!
