How can I apply for a marriage licence when I ave lost my birth certificate?

I do have a valid 10 year UK passport. So do I have to go about applying for a new birth certificate first using the passport? Or could i apply for the marriage licence with just my passport?

& IF I do have to go about applying for a new birth certificate, then how on earth do I do that??? (I was born in the UK)

Many thanks in advance, All help will be much appreciated :)

You can order a copy of your birth certificate (or anyone else's come to that) here:

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/births/

You won't need your passport.
Birth certificates only cost 7, don't pay more than that.
