Hi all, my little girl has a swelling that looks a bit like a stye on her eye. It came up very quickly, and resembles a stye. Do dogs get what we know as styes or might it be something else. ? It is annoying her, she tries to brush it away with a paw , bless her. I wondered about laying a warm cloth to it . but might I do more harm than good ? Any suggestions are welcome ! Haven't our furry friends got the knack of throwing up these problems when the vet is shut for the weekend.? !!!

I would just bathe it with some cooled boiled water with a bit of salt in until you can take her to the vets on Monday. Hope she is okay.
Forgot to add cold tea (without milk and sugar lol) is also very soothing for eyes and might help the soreness a bit. You could use a tea bag.
Would not take any chances with dogs' eyes. I would get her to the vet no matter what the time/day. Does your breed suffer from any inherited eye conditions?

thanks for your help, and Lankeela, I have no idea ,she is a heinz ! It is not a big lump or duly distressing her now she has settled. She is eating and looking good, it just seemed to pop up out of nowhere. I will leave well alone tonight and if it has changed any in the morning I will take her to the vets. It just looks like a pinky lump.
She may have something in the lump, like a thorn, or it could even be a sting. If it is annoying her I would be wary of her really scratching at it overnight and possibly damaging her eye in the process. If it is still swelling or annoying her might be worth giving the vet a ring and popping her to the surgery (before it gets to late into the evening). He may just give an antihistamine jab or something simple - better than letting it develop into something more serious (and costly).
flump I cross posted with you, just a thought - its not a tick is it? If it is I would not try to remove it yourself.
If you wanted to stop her scratching it till you can get to the vet, pets at home sell those buster collars. I used to give my dog piriton tablets on the advice of the vet.

Hi kita, I wondered if it is a tick , when we first saw this thing it my girl tried to brush it off but she has hairy eyelashes and sometimes a brush of her fur helps sort them out for her. Now this lump is just where her eyeliner is !! Bless her she is so pretty . and she is not worried by it at all. I am monitoring it and will take her to the vets in the morning. It is the speed at whatever this is came upon her. and if it is a tick just the situation of it means I will leave it to the vet !!
If it is not bothering her unduly and is not getting any bigger it will probably be OK to leave until Monday. It could be something really simple like an ingrowing eyelash. If it gets any worse though I would call the vet (because it is so close to the eye). They can tend to pick ticks up around their eyes.

Let us know how you get on.
I find that when my furry friends are ill I turn into a mother from hell - dragging them to the vet without delay.

However, apart from the odd occasion, it is me that is bothered by the ailment and not the relevant cat or dog.

Try not to worry (coming from me that's great!) and I am sure that the vet will put your mind at rest on Monday.

Whilst typing this two fiends have run under the desk, shaking it, whilst hissing and spitting and trying to kill each other - the joy of having feline siblings.
